i ruined my ebay doll

A couple of weeks ago i posted about my ebay worries over a new doll. I just had a bad feeling about the auction. It turns out i was right. The seller did a great job and quickly mailed a nice doll but within hours of getting my hands on her i managed to ruin her. Her hair had been badly cut so i tried to rewig her. I've used this brand of wig before with good results but for some reason this time it frizzed up and looked horrible. i tried to fix it with the AG brush but hair came out in clumps and made it look worse. All of this isn't a tragedy but with all my fussing with her i got some type of ink stains all over her too. I must of have had copy maching toner on my hands and not noticed until it was too late. She started out as a nice doll with a bad wig and now she's a messed up, dirty, ink stained doll with an even worse wig. I'm so mad at myself.

Take a really long, deep breath...

You can get the ink off. Go to the grocery store/pharmacy and get some Oxy 10. Take her ruined wig off and get her all perfectly clean. Put some Oxy 10 on the ink spots, and put her under a lamp for a few days, reapplying the medicine every day. The ink should go away. Then, when she is clean and pretty again, try gluing the new wig on with Alleene's Tacky Glue from the craft store. (A little glue goes a long way.)

Look at the Kemper wigs online. They are pretty inexpensive.

yeah, it's not hopeless or ruined at all.

The wig was probably just a bad batch. I like Kemper or Monique wigs, because IMO they are as nice, or nicer than AG wigs.

And ink no matter how bad, eventually comes off with oxy 10. The sooner you use it though, the quicker it comes off.

I was carrying my Felicity in a grocery type bag , and I didn't realize the reciept was still in there. It transfered and she ended up with the entire reciept tattooed on her leg.

I used generic Oxy 10 right away and it came off in a few hours.

I bet she will be just fine. Set her aside till you feel like working on her again, and then give it another shot. It's true that Oxy-10 is good stuff!

If there's ink on the cloth body try hairspray. I've had luck with it on clothes, etc. Hope you end up with a doll you love.

Short of slicing her head in half while trying to take off a wig, there is very little you can do to "ruin" an AG doll. They are remarkably resilient. A little cleaning, a new wig and she will be right as new.

I assume you knew that you can take the head off, put the body in one of those lingerie bags and toss her body (with limbs attached) into the wash. They are designed to be so washed. The problem with putting the head through the wash is that it can mess up the eyes and matt her hair, so head should be cleaned separately. You might want to take out the stuffing and replace it with clean polyfil. While you are that far along, you may wish to restring any loose joints.

I'll tell you something my teacher once told me: It's a cinch by the inch and hard by the yard. Take a deep breathe and do everything in small peices until it's done.

This sounds like what happened to my eBay Felicity. I was disappointed with a gray mark on her cheek and trying to fix that as well as change eye colors----I ended up with marker marks all over her face and mistoned face paint smears. Don't ask how this happened! [img]rolleyes.gif[/img]

I just gave up on her but I did go back to her after weeks. Started the Oxy 10 treatments and took her wig off. Took her head off and removed the fiber from the body. Wanted to see how AG dolls were put together! [img]graemlins/hmmm.gif[/img]

I know if I had started the Oxy 10 treatment sooner than it would have been better, but I thought she was hopeless to fix. She is now waiting for her 2 Monique wigs and looks real good except for eyebrows and lip color that I will add with watercolor pencils later.

I know how you feel now, but your doll is not ruined. Just needs some Oxy 10 treatments with lamp rays if possible and be rewiged again.
Time consuming but worth it in my opinion.
